Among the plethora of famous festivals of Aamchi Mumbai, the Kala Ghoda Art Festival needs no introduction. Like in every February, this year too, it has taken over the most culturally vibrant part of the city. It is spread over several location including the Cross Maidan Garden, the steps of the Asiatic Library, Rampat Row and Gallery, David Sassoon Library Garden, CSMVS Lawns, Gallery 7 and more.
While I’ve been living in Mumbai for over half a decade, I’ve never managed to make it to the much-talked about festival that runs for 9 days, until now. It brings together hundreds of music, dance and art lovers from across the world as well as those from the entertainment and performing arts industries. The aim of the festival is to let people soak up the many shades that make up India’s past and present. It is a kalaeidoscope of music, theatre, dance, literature, street stalls, films and workshops for adults and kids.
Huge crowds turn out to watch the vibrant festival, especially on weekends and the entire area is packed with people clicking selfies, admiring art installations and having a jolly time. There are over 40 stalls selling handicrafts, apparel, quirky gifts and books and even a foot spa being run by the visually impaired.
