Is there anything more tragic than a sad, little soggy croissant? There is! It’s bread disguised as a croissant? *shudder*
These baked beauties aren’t hard to find in Goa, so for all of you seeking a croissant that stays true to its French roots, read on for your favourite Goan food blogger’s picks of Goa’s best croissants 😀
P.S. If you’re new here, I only write about places and dishes I’ve personally tried. So while there may be other great places for croissants in Goa that don’t feature here, it’s because it hasn’t made its way to my tummy.. yet. The search continues…
Best Croissants in Goa
Cinco, Margao
Cinco, a luxury patisserie located in Margao, is renowned for its exceptional croissants that are made fresh every day. Their buttery and flaky croissants are considered the best in town, often coming right out of the oven as you walk in the store. Among their delectable offerings, the almond croissant stands out as a truly indulgent treat. However, the ham and cheese croissant with a touch of mustard, is nothing short of divine. For those with a sweet tooth, the pain au chocolate is a must-try. When it comes to choosing a favorite, the ham and cheese croissant gets a strong vote from me.
Sugar Flower, Panjim
I can’t drive by Patto, Panjim without stopping by (or at least wishing I could stop by) Sugar Flower for a bite of their heavenly, buttery croissants. Their chocolate croissant is to die for, but if you like keeping it simple, you can’t go wrong with their butter croissants. Sugar Flower also has options for fillings like cheese, chorizo, ham, chicken, and more, but I stick to my usual order of chocolate + butter. It’s a pity their coffee is far below average as I’d love a good mug of strong coffee to wash the croissants down with.
Baba au Rhum, Anjuna
Also featured on my lists of best English Breakfasts in Goa and pet-friendly restaurants in Goa, this open-air, part-bakery-part cafe has some excellent bakes. They are popular for their cakes, breads, quiches, and more, but the croissants reign supreme.
Boulanger, Porvorim
Boulanger is a tiny cafe-cum-bakery situated In a residential part of Porvorim and although you will have to take a little detour from your route, it is well worth the effort. Run by a local lad in a portion of his home, Boulanger Goa serves a huge array of fresh, affordable, and delicious bakes. The bakery is one of the only ones to do Double Baked Croissants and you should try it out when you can. Simply choose whether you’d like a chocolate croissant or a plain one and it will be topped with a cream of your choice – Cashew, Pista, Almond, or Hazelnut. It makes an otherwise indulgent treat so much more delicious!
Don’t miss their BLT croissants – it is heavenly! All the croissants and other bakes are available on Swiggy and Zomato, so go ahead and support this enterprising baker and devour all his homemade treats.
P.S. Browse through their display case full of sweet treats and pick from the cakes, pastries, puffs, snacks, and much much more.
Nanbai, Panjim
Plain, chocolate, stuffed with cheese or almond frangipane – Nanbai, a cafe in Panjim has an array of croissants to accompany your mid-day brew (psst… I’m not a fan of the coffee here – its sooo milky!) But when you want to sink your teeth into a soul-satisfying savoury croissant, go with their Chicken Confit Croissant- stuffed with confit chicken, bechamel, mustard, olives, tomatoes, and scallions. If you’re anything like me, you’ll love the chips that come alongside.
Cow Corner, Patnem
I smelt buttery croissants being baked as soon as I walked past the kitchen and into Cow Corner, an absolutely beautiful garden restaurant. I got the bacon and egg croissant which was simply textbook perfect and it took all my willpower to not order a second. Spend a morning enjoying excellent coffee or a candlelight dinner in the evenings. I enjoyed the soothing ambience of the space in the morning – the lush greenery, breezy space and European food served are better experienced in the day, in my opinion.
Big Fat Sandwich, Anjuna
I usually visit Big Fat Sandwich for their scrumptious sandwiches, but on my most recent visit, I saw a lone Almond Croissant sitting on the counter, calling my name. So glad I snatched it up because I relished every bite and how! Not as light and flaky as those in Cow Corner or Baba au Rhum, but totally yum, with a generous sprinkle of almonds on the top and in the middle.
Urth Cafe & Eatery, Vagator
When you crave something fresh and light this summer, head to Urth Cafe and Eatery in Chapora for feel-good meals! Food that’s fresh, fragrant and colourful, made with wholesome ingredients and packed with flavour. I particularly loved their matcha croissant – it was my first time trying it and I so want to go back and have another! They also have gluten free quinoa & fibre based crossaints.
